Home Health Aides (HHA) are supervised by a Registered Nurse (RN) and are certified by the State of Illinois.  They assist patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) such as getting in and out of bed, walking, bathing, toileting, and dressing. Some aids have received additional training and are qualified to provide more complex services under the supervision of a nursing professional. The HHA is responsible for following the orders of the patient’s physician and/or nurse, such as making sure that medication is taken on-time and in the right dosage, changing surgical dressings, and monitoring vital statistics such as temperature and blood pressure. It is also critical to know when additional or more specialized help is required to properly care for the patient.
